Reflection: Chapters 15 16 & 17

The capter immediately starts with David finding Sophie who was living out her banishment in the Fringes. Sophie helps David save Rosalind and Petra from Gordon's tent and they all try to escape. Sophie and Rosalind don't exactly hit it off and it almost turns into a cat fight. The Fringe's people and the Waknuk party end up fighting in a massive battle. In the midst of the battle David's uncle Gordon kills his father in glorious battle with an arrow through his chest. Immediately after he tries to escape but is struck down with multiple arrows and dies (also in glorious battle). Sophie, who was by his side, continues to run but is killed by arrows in her arm and neck (not in glorious battle because she wasn't fighting and she was retreating). Then out of the sky some sort of helicopter from Zealand, drops a cob-web substance that subdues and eventually kills everyone included in the battle but Michael, David, Rosalind, and Petra are saved. Right before the vessel leaves Michael decides to go back and meet with Rachel who recently fell in love with <3 amd says they will find their own way to Zealand which is a near impossible task because of all of the radiation. David, Rosalind, and Petra continue on without Michael and they find the city of David's dreams. For the most part it was a happy ending except for Anne, Alan, Gordon, Sophie, Joseph, David's mother, David's family, Sally, Katherine, and all the people that died by goop... but they don't count. The ending was odd because it just seemed overkill in a short amount of time between Gordon dying ( in glorious battle), covering an army in cob webs, and being flown out in a helicopter. It was only missing a giant firey explosion. Either that or someone has been on LSD. There were two main questions left unanswered: What happened to the telepaths in Waknuk? In the last chapter it says Rachel is the last telepath in Waknuk and she is lonely. Then what happened to Mark, one of the telepaths mentioned earlier. The other question is did Michael and Rachel make it to Zealand or did they even bother? That would make an awesome sequel... but under any circumstances no prequels allowed.

  1. good job! Your summary was great. I must agree that the ending was a bit overkill. There does need to be a sequel, but i think the author is dead. Anyways, nice blog

  3. Allow me to translate from Klingon to English: Good job. When threatened, fight. There is nothing shameful in falling before a superior enemy. Hit them hard and hit them fast. To survive, we must expand. Klingons are a proud race, and we intend to go on being proud. the action does not achieve Honour dishonourably. The Klingon who kills without showing his face has no honor. The day will come when the day hideous enemies will run. It is a good day to die.
