Reflection: Chapters 7 & 8
These chapters begin with the birth of Petra. What is odd about this is that the family ignored the mother's pregnancy until they were certain that the baby was not a deviation. This was probably for the best because if it was meant to be killed the family might be heartbroken or rebel. Then again, rebelling doesn't seem to be such a bad idea in the post-nuclear age. David gets a new baby sister and everyone including David likes her. After Petra is approved one of David's aunt, Harriet, comes just a little while after giving birth to a deviation. Harriet tries to get David's mother to swap their babies to get her's approved. David's mother and father are outraged at the suggestion and they call the baby filth. Harriet leaves and is found dead, but no one mentions a baby. This could mean a few things, the people might have not mentioned the baby because they did not want to acknowledge the existence of the deviation or the baby was taken. Because of these events David is wishing more and more that he was more normal and is questioning his own safety. I think that it is just a matter of time until David will have to run for his life and Petra will come with him.

Goos summary Kyle, I do agree with you that David is going to run away with Petra and I hope it happens soon!
